Print-ready artwork guide

File format

• Send print-ready PDF (PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 preferred) or Adobe Illustrator files.
• Convert all fonts to outlines, or embed them in the PDF.
• Include a version or revision number in the file name, such as Carton_ABC123_RevC.pdf.

Dieline

• Place the dieline on its own layer named "Dieline," as a spot color set to overprint. It won't print.
• Show cut lines as solid and crease lines as dashed.
• Don't have one? We'll build it for you from your product dimensions or a sample.

Bleed and safety margins

• Extend background color and images 1/8 inch (0.125 in) beyond every cut line.
• Keep text and critical copy at least 1/8 inch inside cut and crease lines.
• Keep regulatory copy off glue flaps and away from areas covered by tucks.

Color and images

• Build artwork in CMYK. Give Pantone references for brand colors and we'll match them as closely as the process allows.
• Use images at 300 ppi at final size.
• Use 100% black for small text and fine lines. Reserve rich black for large solid areas.

Variable data and 2D codes

• Mark where each variable field goes with a placeholder box and label, such as "SERIAL" or "2D CODE."
• Tell us the code type (GS1 DataMatrix, QR, or linear barcode), data structure, and minimum size your specification requires.
• Leave a clear quiet zone around codes, free of text and graphics.
• Send serial data as CSV or Excel, one record per carton.

Proofs

• Every job receives a PDF proof within 2 business days of complete artwork. New structures also receive a physical sample carton.
• Approved artwork and revisions are recorded in the artwork revision log that ships with regulated orders.
